General information about Abu Dhabi
We have compiled the most interesting information for your desired travel destination.
Between Tradition and Modernity
Welcome to the futuristic Orient! The capital of the United Arab Emirates is among the most modern cities in the world. Distinctive skyscrapers and magnificent luxury buildings shape the cityscape. In between, traditional markets and restaurants enchant with unmistakable Arab charm. The eponymous Emirate of Abu Dhabi also awaits you with traditional villages, impressive desert landscapes, and picturesque oases.
Special highlights and attractions
In Abu Dhabi, you will find numerous architectural highlights. The Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the largest sacred building in the UAE and, with its 82 white domes, is one of the most impressive mosques overall. Among the most magnificent palaces are the state showcase hotel Emirates Palace and the presidential palace Qasr Al Watan at the northwestern end of Abu Dhabi City. Another architectural masterpiece is the Louvre Abu Dhabi, which offers an impressive glimpse into the history and modernity of the country. Additionally, the city boasts seemingly endless shopping opportunities, top-class golf courses right by the coast, the Ferrari World amusement park with the world's fastest roller coaster, and a variety of paradise-like beaches in front of turquoise sea water.
Desert landscapes and oasis cities
During a vacation in Abu Dhabi, you should not miss a visit to the desert. In the south of the emirate begins the largest contiguous sand desert in the world: the Rub Al Khali, translated as the 'Empty Quarter'. Experience the endless expanse of this impressive landscape on a camel ride or during a thrilling off-road drive. The Liwa Oasis stretches with its date palms, fruit trees, and vegetable gardens like a green band over 100 kilometers through the 'Empty Quarter'. At night, you can observe the twinkling starry sky from a luxury desert resort.
Climate and best travel time
Abu Dhabi's subtropical climate ensures warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine all year round. In winter, from November to March, the emirate tempts with pleasant 25 degrees. In rare cases, temperatures in January can drop below 20 degrees. In the summer months from June to September, extremely high temperatures of over 40 degrees can occur. If you are sensitive to extreme heat, we recommend traveling from November to March.
