Good to know about Denmark
Best Travel Time for Denmark
Denmark can be visited all year round – but when is the best time for which region? The best time for a classic round trip is from May to September: the days are long, the temperatures mild, and nature is at its most beautiful. Especially in June and July, you can expect green landscapes, blooming gardens, and lively coastal towns – perfect for a relaxed combination of city and nature.
For those who prefer a quieter experience, traveling in spring or late summer is ideal. It’s less touristy, prices are moderate, and the light over the Baltic Sea is often particularly atmospheric. Spring and autumn, as well as December, when the city is filled with design markets, Christmas lights, and urban coziness, are also great times to visit Copenhagen.
Experience Copenhagen – between design, culture, and zest for life
Copenhagen is more than just a quick city stop – the Danish capital delights with architectural clarity, Nordic creativity, and a vibrant culinary scene. Amidst small designer shops, canals, museums, and cafes, you can feel the relaxed rhythm of the city – stylish, urban, and surprisingly laid-back.
We recommend planning at least two nights – perhaps in a boutique hotel in Indre By or Vesterbro. Highlights like Rosenborg Castle, the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, or a dinner in one of the New Nordic restaurants can easily fit into an individual itinerary. And for those seeking tranquility, it can be found just a few minutes from the center – such as on a walk through Frederiksberg or on a boat in the Øresund.
Island hopping in Denmark – charming, quiet, and surprisingly diverse
More than 400 islands belong to Denmark – and many of them can be stylishly connected on a journey. A route from Zealand via Funen to Aero, Samsø, or even Bornholm is particularly recommended. Each island has its own character – from historic half-timbered towns to gentle hilly landscapes, wide beaches, and rugged coasts.
The ferry connections are reliable, and the pace is pleasantly relaxed. Those traveling with their own rental car can be independent – and stay in stylish country hotels, charming manors, or modern design houses. Island hopping in Denmark isn't about collecting islands – it's about consciously traveling through a calm, authentic piece of Scandinavia.
Denmark's Coastal Route – North Sea or Baltic Sea?
Whether rough or calm – the coasts of Denmark couldn't be more contrasting. In the west, the North Sea meets wide dune landscapes, wind, and waves. Places like Blåvand, Rømø, or Skagen are ideal for those who love open space and nature. The Baltic Sea coast, on the other hand, is gentler: bays, soft beaches, and charming towns like Ebeltoft, Kerteminde, or Svendborg invite you to linger.
A round trip along the coast is perfect for self-drivers – especially when combined with island stops or an extension in Copenhagen. Thanks to short distances, you can even decide spontaneously whether you prefer to stay another day by the sea or move on. Our recommendations: small boutique hotels with sea views, regional cuisine directly from the fisherman, and a daily rhythm that follows the wind – not the clock.
