Things to know about Zanzibar
Best travel time for Zanzibar
The best travel time for Zanzibar is between June and October as well as December to February. In these months, you can expect sunny days, little rain, and pleasant temperatures – ideal for swimming, diving, and relaxing. Those who prefer absolute tranquility should travel in June or from mid-September. Even during the short dry season in January, Zanzibar shows its most beautiful side. The rainy season typically lasts from mid-March to May and briefly in November.
Zanzibar as a safari extension
Zanzibar is the perfect complement after a safari in Tanzania or Kenya. After intense days in the wilderness, the island offers peace, space, and stylish relaxation by the sea. Many of our guests combine national parks like the Serengeti or Tarangire with a beach stay in Zanzibar – comfortably connected by domestic flights. This creates a trip full of contrasts and unforgettable moments. Discover all our safaris on our Safari Memories homepage.Discover now!
The most beautiful beaches in Zanzibar
Zanzibar is known for its kilometers of white sand beaches. Particularly popular is the east coast around Paje, Bwejuu, and Michamvi – extensive, calm, and with especially fine sand. In the north, Nungwi and Kendwa allure with picturesque sunsets and a bit more liveliness. For absolute seclusion, we recommend the southeast coast or exclusive private resorts on small islands off the coast.
Tides in Zanzibar – what you should know
In Zanzibar, the sea sets the rhythm – and with it the tides. Especially on the east coast, the water often retreats several hundred meters at low tide. Then small sandbanks appear, fishing boats lie on dry ground, and walks in shallow water turn into little discovery tours.
Those who prefer to plunge directly into deeper water should choose a beach on the north or west coast, such as Nungwi or Kendwa. There, the water usually remains consistently high, regardless of low and high tide.
We know the differences well and choose your accommodation in Zanzibar so that it fits your wishes – whether barefoot through tidal pools or straight from the beach into the sea.
