Essential information about Argentina
Best travel time for Argentina
Argentina stretches over more than 3,500 kilometers – from subtropical rainforests to icy glaciers. Therefore, the best time to visit strongly depends on the region.
For Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego, we recommend the months from October to April when mild temperatures and long days offer ideal conditions for hiking and exploring. In northern Argentina with Salta and Jujuy, the climate is reversed: The dry, cooler months from May to October are ideal since the summer months (December–February) can bring heat and considerable rainfall.
Buenos Aires and central Argentina are particularly pleasant in spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May). Overall, Argentina can be visited year-round – it is important to consider the climatic contrasts when planning your route. We are happy to advise you on the best times for each region.
Patagonia or Northern Argentina?
Many travelers focus on Patagonia – the vast landscapes, glaciers like Perito Moreno, and national parks like Los Glaciares are breathtaking. However, northern Argentina is equally fascinating – just completely different.
While the south is dominated by a harsh climate, rugged mountain ranges, and lonely expanses, the northwest of Argentina offers a mix of colonial heritage, spectacular rock formations, and indigenous culture. Regions like Salta or Cafayate are ideal for travelers seeking a combination of nature, history, and culinary delights, and are significantly less touristy than the south.
Our recommendation: If you really want to understand Argentina, try to combine both regions – or make targeted decisions based on your interests. We are happy to plan your itinerary individually.
Iguazú Falls – is it really worth it?
Absolutely. The Iguazú Falls are among the largest and most impressive waterfalls in the world. Over 270 cascades plunge through the tropical rainforest across a width of nearly three kilometers – a natural spectacle that guarantees goosebumps.
Especially impressive is the view into the ‘Garganta del Diablo’, the Devil's Throat, from the Argentine side. At the same time, a visit to the Brazilian side is also worthwhile, where you get the best panoramic view.
The region around Iguazú is tropical, green, and rich in biodiversity. A stay of at least two nights is worthwhile, especially if you plan hikes, boat trips, or visits to nearby nature reserves. The waterfalls can be excellently integrated into a tour of the north or as the conclusion of a stay in Argentina.
How much time should one plan for Argentina?
Argentina is the eighth largest country in the world, so the distances between regions are quite large. For a classic tour, e.g., including Buenos Aires, Patagonia, and another highlight like Mendoza, Iguazú, or the northwest, we recommend at least 14 to 16 days.
For those wanting to dive deeper or combine several regions, ideally, a trip should last three weeks or longer. Many domestic flights shorten travel times, but the diversity of Argentina often reveals itself only through conscious experiences – whether hiking, an evening in a bodega, or a conversation with a gaucho on a ranch.
