General Information about Saudi Arabia
We have compiled the most interesting information for your desired travel destination.
BETWEEN HISTORY AND MODERNITY
The rich heritage and traditions of Saudi Arabia have been shaped by its position as a historical trading center and the birthplace of Islam. In recent years, the Kingdom has undergone a significant cultural transformation, adapting centuries-old customs to the modern world of today. Just recently, the country has opened up to tourism to build bridges between cultures.
SPECIAL HIGHLIGHTS AND ATTRACTIONS
The attractions of Saudi Arabia are diverse – whether the metropolises of Riyadh or Dammam, cultural and historical sites such as Al-Ula and Diriyah, or the mountainous regions around Ta’if or Abha. The coast of the Red Sea also has much to offer; in addition to the beaches, diving enthusiasts will particularly enjoy the region. The colorful coral walls provide a habitat for a variety of fish – with a bit of luck, you might even see hammerhead or tiger sharks.
Climate and Best Travel Time
Saudi Arabia can generally be visited year-round.
Spring: Mid-March to mid-June: In spring, it can be quite cool in Saudi Arabia – especially in the north, where temperatures can drop below 15° Celsius. Further south, however, it is warmer and usually remains over 20° Celsius even in the evening. The amount of precipitation is highest in spring, especially in the central region and in the southwest above the Asir Mountains.
Summer: Mid-June to mid-September: The hottest time of the year, where temperatures average around 45° Celsius. The early morning hours and long evenings are milder, allowing you to use the warm sea to explore Saudi Arabia's world-class diving spots or try sailing and snorkeling. The exception is the upland areas in the southwest of the country, where it is milder.
Autumn: Mid-September to mid-December: In the northern and southwestern highlands, the hot summer weather eases, and a cool breeze provides refreshment. The days remain warm, with temperatures up to 30° Celsius, but the evenings cool down a bit more, making the evening hours suitable for outdoor walks.
Winter: Mid-December to mid-March: The mild, almost cool days in winter are particularly suitable for actively exploring Saudi Arabia. The average temperatures are around ten degrees – in some mountainous regions in the north, it can even snow.
