Itinerary
Tradition meets change
Your journey begins in Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Nestled in a wide valley, it combines monasteries, prayer wheels, and handicrafts with surprisingly modern elements.
Together with your guide, you will explore places like the imposing Buddha Dordenma and the Memorial Chorten, a central place of prayer. Depending on your interests, there will be time for markets, small museums, or a walk along the river.
Thimphu is more than just a starting point – it shows how Bhutan opens up to the world without losing itself.
Nature, culture, and river valleys
From Thimphu, you will travel over the Dochula Pass to Punakha. In clear weather, a wide view opens up to the snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas – a first scenic highlight.
In the Punakha Valley, you will find fertile plains, rice terraces, and the impressive monastery fortress Punakha Dzong, beautifully situated at the confluence of two rivers. Enjoy easy hikes to small temples or cross one of the longest suspension bridges in the country.
Punakha combines spirituality, nature, and activity – ideal for those who want to experience Bhutan actively, yet relaxed.
Vastness, tranquility, and gentle encounters
The drive to the Phobjikha Valley is one of the most beautiful routes of your journey. At around 3,000 meters altitude, the wide, treeless valley opens up – a place of tranquility, home to the rare black-necked cranes, and characterized by meditative slowness.
You will visit the Gangtey Monastery, which towers over the valley, and have time for walks through small villages, wide fields, and open forests. Whether on a quiet hike or in the evening by the fireplace of your lodge – Gangtey is a place to arrive at oneself.
History, views, and spiritual highlights
In Paro, you will feel the deep connection between nature and spirituality. The valley is rich in culture: small temples, farmers' markets, and the National Museum tell the story of Bhutan.
A highlight of your journey is the hike to the famous Tiger's Nest Monastery, spectacularly perched on a cliff above the valley. The approximately five-hour ascent leads past prayer flags and viewpoints – a path of silence and introspection, rewarded with an unforgettable moment.
Saying goodbye
After breakfast, your guide will take you to the airport in Paro. The return flight will take you along the Himalayan range one last time – with the feeling of having encountered a Bhutan that resonates: peaceful, authentic, and deeply touching.
