A wooden deck with a small pool overlooking lush green tropical forest in Costa Rica.

For white-water rafting in a jungle paradise – if that sounds like the kind of adventure that excites your travel desires, the Pacuare Lodge might be the perfect choice for your dream vacation in Costa Rica. Even the journey to this accommodation, which has been included in National Geographic's exclusive circle of Unique Lodges of the World, is a real experience: A hotel transfer takes you from the capital, San José, past the Irazú Volcano into the unspoiled nature of the eastern part of the country. A canoe ride over the rushing rapids of the Pacuare River or a drive in a 4x4 through the impressive mountainous landscape takes you straight to the lodge surrounded by dense rainforest. In addition to 20 villas and suites harmoniously integrated into the lush vegetation, you will find a traditional spa and an infinity outdoor pool here. However, the main attraction remains the rainforest itself, which you can discover through zipline excursions along the treetops, hikes, and white-water rafting tours.

Room

A private villa amidst the treetops or a suite by the riverside – the Pacuare Lodge is a prime example of the successful fusion of nature and architecture. Built to the highest eco-standards, the lodge offers a total of 20 lovingly decorated villas and suites. Parquet floors, custom-made teak and bamboo furniture, and a generously sized terrace with a hammock can be found in every accommodation. Exclusive features such as an outdoor hot tub, a private wooden deck with a viewing platform, or a freestanding bathtub with jungle views make the individually designed villas luxurious hideaways. Slightly smaller, yet no less exclusive, the suites measuring around 60-90 square meters come with garden or river views.

Culinary

Former guests of the Pacuare Lodge particularly praise the excellent cuisine at this rather remote location in the middle of the rainforest. In addition to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, homemade specialties like fresh pastries are served with coffee or tea in the afternoon. Part of the lodge's extensive sustainability efforts is the integration of local talent into the creative kitchen team. Look forward to fine fusion cuisine with local influences, made using only the best organic ingredients from the lodge's own vegetable, fruit, and herb garden.

Activities

Back to nature – at the Pacuare Lodge, the unique setting in the middle of the rainforest is ever-present. Accompany the specially trained guides on extensive hikes that are suitable for both inexperienced and seasoned leisure athletes, depending on the duration and terrain. Visit one of the Cabécar Indian tribes and learn all about the customs and traditions of the indigenous people of Costa Rica, some of which are up to 3,000 years old. Just as exciting: a walk to the farming village of Bajo del Tigre, from which most of the lodge's staff come. The Jawa Juü Spa pampers you with massages and other soothing treatments using only natural products, and the techniques are inspired by the healing methods of the Cabécar Indians.
