The capital of Peru is one of the largest cities in South America. There is bustling activity at any time of day or night, and there is always something to experience. Even if it may not be love at first sight, you will come to love the colorful metropolis at the second glance, especially when you stroll through the streets of downtown. The heart of the Inca population - Cusco

After your first night in Peru, you start the day with an exploration tour through the historic center of Lima. Especially impressive is the baroque Basilica of San Francisco with its underground catacombs, which once served as a cemetery.

After the visit, you will fly to Cusco – the former capital of the Inca Empire, surrounded by fascinating ruins, including the legendary Machu Picchu. The name Cusco comes from Quechua and means 'navel of the world' – a reference to the city's cultural significance. Due to its altitude of over 3,400 meters, altitude sickness can occur, which many travelers address with coca tea. In the evening, your transfer takes you to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

03

The Sacred Valley of the Incas

Today, you will explore the archaeological site of Pisac, which was once a fortress, ceremonial site, and agricultural center of the Incas. Some of the terraces are still in use today. Pisac is particularly lively at its colorful market, where female vendors in traditional dress offer handmade goods, fruits, and crafts – especially bustling on Sundays when local mayors gather in the main square.

After a refreshment, you will continue to Ollantaytambo, the last Inca city in the Sacred Valley. The well-preserved city structure gives an authentic insight into life during Inca times. In the late afternoon, the train takes you from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, where you will spend the night.

Next, there will be a visit to Andahuaylillas. Here you can see among other things the 'Sistine Chapel of America', which combines Spanish history with Inca influences. Afterwards, you can also make a historical stop in Pucara. Here, there are the 'Toritos de Pucará', which are pottery bulls that come in various colors and decorations. They are a symbol of protection and good luck. As you stroll through the streets, you can see the bulls on rooftops, for example.

The Island of the Sun

Today you will go to the Island of the Sun on Lake Titicaca. Here lies the ruin of Pilkokaina, which is the only proof that a city existed in pre-Inca times. To reach the ruins, you must take a small hike since the island is car-free. However, once you arrive, you will be rewarded with a breathtaking view over the lake.

The main town of the island is Yumani in the south of the island, where you can find beautiful gardens and a sacred spring, which once stood for eternal youth and embodied the Incas' motto: Ama sua, Ama llulla, Ama khella (Do not steal, do not lie, and do not be lazy). After your visit to the island, the tour continues to La Paz.

Potosi, Silver, and Coins

Here, silver was discovered during the conquest, which was then mined. In 1572, the Spanish viceroy Francisco de Toledo established a mint (casa de la moneda), which you can also visit today.

Afterwards, you will continue to Uyuni, where you will find the hotel for the night.

The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat and incredibly impressive to see. It looks like a sea of white salt and the expanse is indescribable – no end in sight. A natural spectacle that you absolutely should not miss!

Nothing grows here but a few cacti – a surreal place in the middle of Bolivia.

A special highlight is a ride on the cable car: Since 2014, it offers spectacular views of the city and the surrounding mountains. Enjoy the evening hours and let your journey come to a relaxed end – the next day, departure is scheduled.
