5 things that make Silversea special
Luisa's report from on board the Silver Ray
Luisa's report from on board the Silver Ray
Before she boarded the Silver Ray, our colleague Luisa also had a pretty classic image of cruises in her mind: crowded decks, large buffets, lots of people. After five days with Silversea, not much of that remained. In her report, she shares five little moments on board that showed her what makes this cruise line truly special – from coffee with an ocean view to the butler who remembers her name.
A different small world every evening
One of my favorite moments of the day was actually dinner. Not only because of the food, but because each evening felt a bit different.
Sometimes we sat in La Terrazza with fresh pasta and a glass of wine, lingering outdoors forever with a view of the sea – by the way, also one of my favorite places for breakfast. On another evening, we were drawn to Atlantide, where fish and steaks are the main focus and the atmosphere is a bit more elegant.
In Kaiseki, things turned Japanese. Each course was so beautifully coordinated that it felt more like a culinary experience rather than just dinner. In Silver Note, the mood was quite different again: live jazz, small refined dishes with international influence.
I also really remembered the S.A.L.T. Kitchen. There, the dishes are inspired by the regions you are currently visiting.
I honestly couldn't name a favorite. The restaurants were just too different. Actually, you would need at least two weeks on the Silver Ray to really try everything.
From the market to the plate
Also very special was this connection between the places on land and life on board.
After a day on land filled with impressions from small markets, fresh fish, fruits, vegetables, and spices, you always took a little bit of it back to the ship. And later at dinner, you suddenly discovered exactly those flavors or ideas again.
Sometimes it was just an ingredient or a specific combination on the plate, but it was these little details that made the difference.
It didn't feel like: 'We were somewhere today and now we are back on the ship.' The journey continued in a way – just in a different manner.
My coffee with an ocean view
A small thing that made me happy every morning: the first coffee on the balcony.
The coffee that Dawa brought me in the mornings – my good fairy on the ship – almost became a little ritual. Going outside still half-asleep, looking at the sea, and simply enjoying that moment. No program, no rush, just a peaceful start to the day.
Especially these little moments stayed in my mind more than some tourist attractions by the end.
The butler who really listens
At first, I was honestly a bit skeptical about what to expect from a butler on a ship. It sounded at first like something very exclusive, maybe a bit unfamiliar.
But with Dawa, I quickly realized that it wasn't about grand gestures. He often knew what I needed before I even thought about it. A cold cola on the balcony after a long day, the coffee in the morning, or a small snack in the afternoon after a tiring excursion in the city.
And whenever we encountered each other somewhere on the ship, he always greeted me by my name – quite naturally and with genuine warmth.
Exactly these little things made the difference. It wasn't forced; it was simply a nice attentiveness that made the journey even more personal.
My favorite spot on board the Silver Ray
A place on the Silver Ray that remains particularly memorable to me was The Marquee.
What I liked about it: It feels different at any time of the day. In the morning, you sit relaxed at breakfast, looking at the sea, and let the day start calmly. At noon, it gets more casual – with pizza, burgers, or freshly grilled fish right by the water.
I especially liked this blend: it's relaxed and uncomplicated, yet still with that special Silversea feeling. You come back from an excursion, sit down, and simply enjoy the moment. This ease and comfort make The Marquee a place I fondly think back on.
My conclusion
For me, Silversea is not just an upscale cruise line. It's this interplay of luxury, maximum comfort, and a service that goes well beyond the expected. A team that is attentive, remembers the details, and makes you feel truly seen.
At the same time, there is this desire for discovery: the ships, the restaurants, new places, and especially the expeditions that enable uniquely special experiences. This connection of arriving and adventure is what makes Silversea so appealing to me.
