Uga Halloowella

Nestled between lush green tea plantations, narrow mountain roads, and the often low-hanging clouds of Sri Lanka's highlands, the region around Hatton feels almost like its own little world. This is where Uga Halloowella is located – a restored colonial bungalow above the Castlereagh Reservoir, embedded in the tranquility of the tea country landscape. Instead of a classic resort, you'll find the feeling of residing for a few days in a private manor house in the mountains. The atmosphere is relaxed and strongly influenced by nature: morning fog over the tea plantations, warm sunshine on the verandas in the afternoon, and cool mountain air by the fireplace in the evening. It is this blend of colonial character and the extraordinary landscape that makes Halloowella an exciting stop on your journey through Sri Lanka.

Culinary

The cuisine at Uga Halloowella is strongly oriented towards the region's products and is individually crafted as an all-inclusive concept. Sri Lankan curries, fresh vegetable dishes from the garden, as well as international classics are served in a consciously small, personal atmosphere. Particularly popular are breakfast on the terrace overlooking the tea plantations and the traditional afternoon tea concept with local specialties. Many dinners are held on the veranda, by the fireplace, or as lawn dining in the garden, ensuring that the culinary experience is closely connected with the surroundings. The offerings are complemented by a well-curated wine selection and high-quality Ceylon teas from the region.

Location

Uga Halloowella is located in Sri Lanka's central highlands near Hatton at an altitude of about 1,400 meters. The journey from Colombo takes around four to five hours by car and goes through tea plantations, small towns, and winding mountain roads. The train ride to the highlands is particularly atmospheric and is considered one of the most beautiful train routes in Asia. Alternatively, private helicopter transfers can be organized. Due to its elevated location, the climate remains pleasantly cool and significantly quieter than on the coasts of Sri Lanka.
